I added a short discussion and tutorial for the FREE encryption program AxCrypt. AxCrypt allows you to protect files and folders using encryption. Use AxCrypt if you store personally identifying information such as social security and drivers license numbers, credit card, and bank account numbers on your computer/s. If you operate a SOHO (small office, home office) business use AxCrypt to encrypt/protect confidential customer/client and vendor lists or sensitive employee information. more...

I added a new tutorial that describes some changes you can make to improve the security and privacy of your high speed/broadband Internet and wireless access. I use a 2WIRE 2700HG-B in my examples. However, the concepts I cover are applicable to any similar device. The 2WIRE 2700HG-B (or similar device) is included with broadband access provided by many large service providers to include AT&T/Yahoo, Verizon, Netzero, Juno, Qwest, some large European and Asian providers. more...

I re-wrote and expanded my tutorial on Cryptainer LE. Cryptainer LE allows you to create "encrypted volumes" or "vaults" that you can use to store and protect important personal or business files/information/data. It would be useful for any home, SOHO (small office, home office) business that uses computers. more...

Forget about lugging your laptop with you when you leave home. Try the PortableApps Suite and take great FREE applications with you on a thumb/flash or other portable drive. I also include a short tutorial I wrote on how to install the PortableApps Suite into an encrypted TrueCrypt volume to increase your privacy. more...

Instant messaging (IM) could be a useful tool to work with customers and other business related contacts if you run a small or home business. IM Could save you money on long distance phone charges. I wrote an article about instant messaging discussing some of it's benefits and dangers. I also give some ideas on what you can do to protect yourself if you currently use or plan to begin using IM. more...

I completed a tutorial that discusses what "hard drive imaging" is and how you can use it to recover from a computer emergency (your computer becomes infected by a virus, Trojan or the hard drive fails). I demonstrate how to use a free application called DriveImage XML to create a drive image. I also show you how you can automate the creation of drive images. more...

I wrote a quick discussion of some of the ways you might use UBCD4Win as a recovery tool in a computer emergency. This is not a tutorial at this point. I also discuss how one of the utilities on UBCD4Win can be used to securely clean/wipe a computers hard drive before you sell it online. more...

Many home and SOHO (small office, home office) computer users I've met do not routinely backup important files. I offer a few suggestions on how to use the free program "Allway Sync" to backup stored files and synchronize newly updated/created files. more...
