TrueCrypt provides two levels of plausible deniability, in case an adversary forces
you to reveal the password: a hidden volume; no TrueCrypt volume can be identified
(volumes cannot be distinguished from random data). TrueCrypt uses encryption algorithms AES-256, Blowfish (448-bit key),
CAST5, Serpent, Triple DES, and Twofish. It is based on Encryption for the Masses (E4M)
2.02a, conceived in 1997.

Do you store/save private personal or business information on your desktop computer, laptop or
USB drive? If you answered yes you need to learn more about
and begin using encryption. TrueCrypt is one of my favorite encryption applications.
It is fast, has many different encryption options and in my experience is very
stable and reliable. It is available for Windows XP/2000/2003 and various flavors of
Linux. TrueCrypt is FREE and works as well as any similar for purchase encryption
software I've used.

The company's online
documentation is
well written. It provides a good overview of the program including the types of encryption
and hash algorithms TrueCrypt can use. If you want to skip the details and get
started using TrueCrypt I've written a tutorial.
I've also written a tutorial on what encryption is and
how it can be used to protect you, your family and business if you operate one.
I hope you find this information useful. Have a great day, Tom

any time you add a program/application or hardware device to your computer you run the
risk of a problem developing with your computer. Always back up important files on your
