Notetab Light is a free Notepad replacement and HTML editor. Move quickly around large files
with a tabbed interface, and format your text. Write with the font of your choice, fixed width or
proportional. If you need to cut and paste chunks from a pile of files, you can set up a Paste
Board file to save text clips automatically. Strip HTML tags from your files. Call up complete
document statistics instantly. Use system-wide search and replace tools. Speed up your work with
text macros; you can use them as shortcuts, or even to auto-replace recurring typos. Sample macro
libraries are supplied, and you can easily build your own.
I prefer to write and edit the .html and CSS code used for our Web site by hand.
Notetab Light makes editing multiple files easy. Multiple files can be opened and
viewed as tabbed pages which can be edited/changed as a group or individually.
You can close individual pages/tabs by right clicking a tab and choosing "close".
The "Find and Replace" feature of the program allows you find and then replace small or very
large sections of text or code very quickly. Don't let the small input box of the "Find and
Replace" feature fool you. You can cut and paste very large sections of text or code into both
the "Find what:" or "Replace with:" boxes.
You can customize NoteTab Light's interface to show as many or few icons/features as you like.
I prefer a simple, uncluttered interface to programs I use.
Click:
"View" at the top of the program (menu bar)
"Options"
"Toolbar"
You can add, subtract and arrange toolbar buttons/components as you like. Click "View" then
"Libraries Bar" if you want to further simplify Notetab Lights interface. This program has an
enormous number of features and uses especially for FREE. Even though it's FREE you are not
forced to view annoying advertising or screens nagging you for money. Notetab Light is substantially
better in many ways than "Notepad" the editor included with standard installations of Microsoft's
Windows. NoteTab Pro offers even more features including a spell checker and can be purchased from
the companies (Fookes Software) Web site.
Warning: All the software I suggest is popular and well tested. However,
any time you add a program/application or hardware device to your computer you run the
risk of a problem developing with your computer. Always back up important files on your
computer before installing any new program/application or device. You download
and install any new software at your risk.
If you have any comments on how I might improve this information please offer your
suggestions. Thanks, Tom
