Publisher's Description

Foxit Reader can be downloaded and used FREE of charge. It is a small download and doesn't require a lengthy installation. It works with all types of PDF documents you might have, with high display quality. Foxit Reader supports different languages including most Asian languages. You can zoom in/zoom out or rotate page display, copy text information to other application, search text in PDF document, and print PDF documents.

Foxit Reader allows you to view/read and print documents created in the Portable Document Format (PDF). It is designed to be used on computers running versions of Microsoft's Windows to include Windows Me/2000/XP/2003/Vista.

PDF formatted documents allow you to share your documents with people who have different types of computers. Do you need to share a document with someone who owns a "Mac/Apple" or uses some other operating system/platform (Linux/Unix). Free PDF reading applications are available for most major operating systems/platforms.

Why would a PDF formatted document be useful to you? Example: You have a document (letter, invoice, term paper, product order form, spec sheet, RMA form) you created using Microsoft's word processing program called "Word". You want to share the document with a person who does not have Microsoft Word installed on their computer.

Convert the document you want to share to the PDF format. Send the document to your intended recipient as a attachment to an e-mail. Include a link in your e-mail to a free PDF reader application like Foxit Reader. The person you want to share your document with could then downloaded and install Foxit Reader. Once installed Foxit Reader will allow your document to be viewed, printed, sent as a fax as needed. Any documents you convert to the PDF format could also be made available and viewed, saved or printed from your Web site if you have one.

The PDF file type was originally developed by a company called Adobe Systems (www.Adobe.com). They also distribute a free PDF file reader called Adobe Reader. I like the Foxit PDF reader better than the Adobe Systems reader for the following reasons:
  1. Foxit Reader starts and opens documents faster.
  2. Foxit Reader is a smaller download.
  3. Once Foxit Reader is installed it occupies less room on a computers hard drive than the Adobe Systems reader.

Security and privacy reasons: The Adobe Reader is the most common application used by the majority of people to read PDF formatted documents. The fact that Adobe Reader is installed on so many computers has made it a target of malicious people. Malicious people exploit characteristics of how Adobe Reader operates to gain unauthorized access and control over computers it is installed on.

Warning: All the software I suggest is popular and well tested. However, any time you add a program/application or hardware device to your computer you run the risk of a problem developing with your computer. Always back up important files on your computer before installing any new program/application or device. You download and install any new software at your risk.

If you have any comments on how I might improve this information please offer your suggestions. Thanks, Tom Bowser
