| Decrypt files using DecypherIT:
| |
The instructions that follow are written for those of you using Microsoft's Outlook
Express (version 6.0 as of this writing) as your e-mail client/program. The operating
system used when I created these instructions was Windows XP. These instructions
will be similar for other mainstream windows e-mail clients as well. The actual
steps you need to follow may vary depending on the version of Windows you are using.
| |
1) Open the e-mail you received with the encrypted file
| |
| |
2) Double left click the encrypted file (seen as a file attachment to the e-mail you received).
In our example above the file is called "Ccardnbr.sit" (in red). A popup will appear asking
"Do you want to open this file?"
| |
3) Click the "Open" button and DeCypherIT will appear
| |
| |
4) Click the "browse" button next to the "Decrypt To:" box to choose where to save
the file once it is decrypted. Unless you have a specific place you want to save
your file I suggest you save it to your computers "Desktop". The desktop is what
you see on your monitor when you first turn on your computer. It is the space that's
usually cluttered with shortcuts (who, me?). This will allow you to find it more
easily once it is decrypted.
| |
| |
5) Click on "Desktop" then the "OK" button (see below)
| |
| |
6) Click in the check box to deselect the following 2 items:
- "Open target folder after successful decryption"
- "Delete original file after successful decryption" (see following image)
| |
| |
7) Enter your password and click the "Decrypt File..." button (see above)
| |
That's it! Look on your computers desktop and you should see a
decrypted version of the file you received. The file will no longer have the .sit
3 letter extension at the end. For example, the encrypted file I used at the
beginning of this tutorial was Ccardnbr.sit. After I decrypted the file it now
has it's original extension of Ccardnbr.doc. The .doc file extension is
used/associated with Microsoft's word processing program called "Word".

Click the "Next" button at the bottom of this page to begin another tutorial that
will teach you how to use "Password Agent Lite" the FREE password creation,
storage and management application.
