encryption tools

alternative methods to encrypt files

Are you are unable to send a self decrypting file to an e-mail recipient? Cryptaner LE can encrypt your file without packaging it as a .exe (executable file). Your file will be encrypted and assigned a file extension of .sit instead of the .exe used by the self encrypting files. This should allow the encrypted file to pass through most antivirus software configurations used to filter incoming e-mail. The exception would be if the recipient's antivirus software was set to strip ALL attachments.

The steps to create encrypted files with the .sit extension are the same as outlined to create self decrypting .exe files. However, at step 5 click the "Encrypt File ..." button instead of the "Create Encrypted Self-Extractor (.EXE) File..." button. I suggest creating both types of encrypted files and sending them to your recipient to determine which works best.

Decrypt Files Using DecypherIT

To decrypt a .sit file the recipient of your encrypted file can download and install a small, FREE utility called "DecypherIT" from the Cypherix Web site. Note: "DecypherIT" can be installed and used/run on a computer account in the limited "User" group.

I've outlined the steps to download, install and decrypt the .sit files you send. You can include a link to these instructions in the e-mail you send with your attached, encrypted files. These directions are for Windows XP users using Internet Explorer. However, they will serve as a guide for users of other Windows versions. Instruct the recipient to save the encrypted file you send them (seen as an e-mail attachment) to their "Desktop". This will simplify finding both the encrypted and decrypted file.

To download "DecypherIT" click:
  1. here to go to the "DecypherIT" download page.
  2. the "FREE Download" button on the DecypherIT page
  3. in the radio button next to "Save to Disk" in the popup window
  4. the "OK" button in the popup window
  5. the drop down arrow to the right of the "Save in: box
  6. "Desktop" then the "Save" button to save DecypherIT on the computers desktop

To install "DecypherIT": see directions on next page...
