Verify Internet Security Settings

The security of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer are interlinked. We've verified the "Restricted sites zone" was selected within Outlook's options. In the following section we verify the security settings of the "Restricted sites" zone. The Restricted sites zone should be assigned the "High" security level by default. Let's verify this setting is correct. Open/run Internet Explorer:
  • click "Tools" on the menu bar
  • then "Internet Options..."
Internet Options

Click the:

  • "Security" tab then
  • "Restricted Sites" icon (red ball) to highlight it
Internet Options

You should see a slider in it's top most or "High" position (see image above). If you do not see the slider click the "Default Level" button.

Internet Options

This will restore the safer/default high level security settings. If you made any changes click the:

  • "Apply" then
  • "OK" buttons
